CheckMyBoxes is built to need as little of your data as possible. Here's exactly what that means in practice.
You never sign up or log in. When you build a checklist, your browser encodes the whole thing — title, items, checked state, theme — into the page's own URL. That link is your checklist. We don't keep a separate copy of it on a server, and we can't look it up, edit it, or delete it on our end, because it was never stored with us to begin with.
Practically, this means anyone who has the link can open and, depending on the option you chose, edit that checklist — the link functions like a password. Don't put anything in a checklist you wouldn't want a stranger to see if the link were forwarded, and don't use it to share sensitive personal information (account numbers, medical details, etc.).
Your browser's local storage keeps two small lists: the IDs of checklists you created on this device (so we can tell "your" lists apart from ones sent to you) and the IDs of lists you've watched finish and disappear. Neither ever leaves your device or reaches us.
When a checklist link is shared in a messaging app, that app asks our server for a small preview image and title before anyone opens it. To generate that preview, our server briefly reads the checklist encoded in the link — that's the one moment your checklist content passes through our infrastructure rather than staying entirely in your browser. It's used only to render that single image and isn't logged or retained afterward.
Like virtually every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically logs basic technical information for security and reliability — things like IP address, browser type, and request timestamps. This is standard web infrastructure logging, not something CheckMyBoxes adds on top, and we don't use it to build profiles of visitors.
CheckMyBoxes may show ads served by Google AdSense (and, as the site grows, other ad networks) to help cover hosting costs. These networks may use cookies or similar technology to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can review or opt out of personalized advertising at adssettings.google.com, and generally at optout.aboutads.info. We don't share your checklist content with ad networks — they only ever see ordinary page-visit data, the same as on any other site running ads.
CheckMyBoxes isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
If how the site handles data changes in a meaningful way, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
